As the shining star refuses to continue, one of the most acclaimed television shows in American history is coming to an end in 2012.

"30 Rock" star Alec Baldwin said late Tuesday that the show will complete its run after the next season, in time for Baldwin and creator Tina Fey is going to begin a bigger and better projects (directing films and writing). "Next year is our last year of the show," he told New York Magazine at the National Dance Institute fundraising gala in New York City."Our contracts are expired and Tina is gonna have a big career directing films and writing. She's going to be the next Elaine May. She'll be great," he added. Baldwin himself is going from "Rock" to "Rock" as the actor preps for his role in an upcoming big screen adaptation of the Broadway musical "Rock of Ages." "30 Rock" would end after six seasons, a legitimate run for a show that never was a ratings winner. Though it won three consecutive Best Comedy Emmy wins, the show has passed the trophy torch to reigning Emmy winner "Modern Family."Fey wrote recently that her portrayal of unsuccessful 2008 vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin on "Saturday Night Live" may have hurt ratings for "30 Rock." "Some may argue that exploiting Governor Palin and her family helped bring attention to my low-rated TV show," an excerpt of the book posted on USA Today read. "I am proud to say you are wrong. My TV show still enjoys very low ratings."Fey said she believes "the Palin stuff" negatively affected "30 Rock." "Let's face it, between Alec Baldwin and me there is a certain fifty percent of the population who think we are pinko Commie monsters," Fey wrote.
