Last weeks interview with Michael D. Dwyer,
the man trying to bring the USFL back from
it's extinction was just the first of many
pieces of news that will be coming from that
league, and now they have the first of many
to come "names" attached to their proposed
reemergence. A source close to the situation
has confirmed that Bob Golic has agreed to
head their "Competition & Rules" committee.
Golic a former NFL lineman and member of the
New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns and
LA Raiders is also the brother of Mike Golic
of ESPN's "Mike & Mike" radio morning team.
More announcements in the the way of league
commissioner, schedule and coaches are expected
in the very near future.
Moms with postpartum depression apparently have reduced brain activity - one more thing to worry about
I came across a recent article on psychcentral.com about a recently published study linking postpartum depression to diminished brain activity. The study, published in this month's edition of American Journal of Psychiatry, was done by the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and was partly funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD).
Basically what the study says is that women suffering from postpartum depression may have reduced brain activity in certain regions of their brains that are involved in emotional processing. So, depressed moms are not as in tune with others' emotions, nor are they as responsive to emotional cues as they should be. When her baby cries, a mom with PPD may not react or respond as she would if she weren't depressed.
I don't know why this would be a surprise to anyone, and I'm not really sure the point of the study. The author of the article asserts that the study will benefit future treatment of PPD, but I'm not so sure about that. For one thing, only 30 mothers participated in the study - 14 who were determined to be "depressed," and 16 who were "healthy." This doesn't seem like a large enough population sample.
Another thing that bothers me about this study is that the focus seemed to be on the mom-baby attachment, and when you get into this sticky area, you run the risk of blaming moms for a lack of attachment. And you wonder what the real goal is. Treatment shouldn't be focused on improving the level of attachment a mom has for her baby. The goal of treatment should be getting the mom healthy and free from PPD. Mom-baby bonding is but one of many aspects that will improve as she recovers and breaks free from PPD.
We need to focus more on avoiding PPD to begin with instead of treating just one of the issues connected with the disorder.

Ashley Cole has reportedly called in lawyers in an effort to force his ex-wife Cheryl out of their marital home.
As part of the couple’s divorce settlement the Chelsea footballer is keeping the £6million mansion.
However, Ashley is currently sharing a flat with a pal and has allegedly become impatient to move back into his home.
The X Factor judge has confirmed that she will vacate the Surrey mansion at the end of next month.
A friend of the Chelsea defender told The People: “Ashley has made no secret of his wish to move back into the house and he was becoming increasingly frustrated about the delay.
“Ashley realised Cheryl had spent a lot of time in Los Angeles recently and is now busy with X Factor but he decided to try and force the issue a little.
“He is relieved to learn his lawyer has received an assurance that Cheryl will move out at the end of next month.”

There's no question that Angelina Pivarnick from "The Jersey Shore" is sitting on the verge of a major music career with pop icon status. She's the true star of this season and has her own reality TV show in production, among the many projects.

We love him for getting on this prime time show, but where he goes from here remains to be seen. Snooki is cute and may have an acting/commercial endorsement career in front of her, if she wants it. J-Woww is a clothing designer and Pauly D is now a famous celebrity DJ working the circuit. Talent beyond reality stardom is usually extremely rare and gimmicks can die fast.
I have been keeping tabs on Miss Angelina and let's just say we like what we are seeing with her new styling and career path choices. Hard at work and hustling, she's been in a NY Fashion Week Show for Style 360, taping her own reality series, making appearances around the country and is in the studio working on an album. Angelina is taking risks and following her own path to stardom. I seriously cannot wait for her upcoming music release. We expect great things from you Angelina! So, please do not disappoint!
If Angelina pulls off a hot music release that pleases the tastemakers, fans and industry - while actually selling records and drawing crowds - she will cement herself with long-lasting stardom. There is just something so powerful about becoming a famous rock star. No one can deny the power of a hit record. Will Angelina be the next Lady Gaga or Ke$ha? I hope so!
As her Twitter blows up, she wastes no time taking shots at the Situation and her fellow castmates, as she embarks on her post-Jersey Shore excursion. It's never a dull moment following these guys and gals on Twitter.

Lindsay Lohan is a free woman - for now.
She left Los Angeles County's Century Regional Detention Center at about 11:40 p.m. Friday after posting $300,000 bail.
On Friday morning, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Elden S. Fox ordered the 24-year-old actress -- who recently admitted failing at least one court-ordered drug test in her three-year DUI case -- to stay behind bars until an Oct. 22 probation hearing.But her lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, filed an appeal Friday, arguing that Lohan was unlawfully denied bail since she had been convicted of misdemeanors.
Lohan will have to wear a SCRAM bracelet -- her third this year -- within 24 hours. Under the terms of her bail, she also must stay away from places that primarily sell alcohol.GOOD LUCK FRECKLES!
The Lockdown Continues
Lindsay Lohan was twice sprung early in her previous stays at a Lynwood, Calif., jail, serving only a fraction of her sentences.
Not this time.
"Ms. Lohan cannot be released early because this isn't a jail sentence," L.A. Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore says. "She's being held by court order until her hearing on Oct. 22. She will be held in the same conditions as her last stay, in a keep-away unit."
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Lohan will remain at the all-female-inmate facility for the next 29 days.
"She's now being processed through, she's going to go through the same physical and mental evaluation," says Whitmore, adding that she'll be segregated from the general population "for the safety and security of the entire jail system."
Whitmore adds that Lohan is "very cooperative, very demure, very quiet. Once again she's doing everything that is asked of her. Last time she did very well and so far, so good this time.''
Lohan, 24, once again donned an orange jumpsuit and is expected to be held by herself in an 8-by-12 foot cell, where she could spend approximately 23 hours a day.
Those hours in confinement are shortened, however, on days when she's visited by her lawyer and loved ones.
The actress was ordered into custody Friday and held without bail after she failed a recent drug test in her DUI probation case.

if his first two games this year are any indication,
then that is nothing more than illusion on his part.
CJ had one breakaway run vs the Raiders due to a
defensive breakdown on the Part of FS Michael Huff
(He was benched for the next defensive series).
If you subtract only that run from CJ's total so
far in 2010, then you'll see that he has a total of
100 rush yards on 42 rush attempts this season for a
grand total average of 2.38 YPA. If that is a pattern
that teams are starting to key in on CJ then it would
take Mr Johnson almost 47 games at an average of 53.25
yards per game to achieve his feat 2,500 yards rushing
in a single season. His average in the Raider game
minus his one breakaway run was was slightly higher
at 2.54 yards per carry, and vs the Steelers it was
2.125. So he better hope he has a few more of those
76 yard runs mixed in, otherwise the NFL may truly need
to go to a 47 game season to accommodate CJ2k's desire!

their schedule may put things into a little more
perspective and make you realize that they have
farther to go than they would like you to believe.
Hopefully the Bears will make a run at a perfect
season and rest their starters (LOL), and the
Bills will lay down in hopes that they can get
Jake Locker with the number one overall pick
in the 2011 NFL Draft. That way they can sneak
in like they did last year and pump their chests
loud and proud on how they "almost" went to the
Super Bowl. Of course alomost only counts in
horseshoes and hand grenades, and fortunately
we don't have any of those to think about around

Teen queen Selena Gomez is Latina magazine's October 2010 cover girl and so much has happened to the mini-mogul since the last time she graced our cover we hardly knew where to begin! Over the last year and a half Gomez has launched a fashion line, released a gold album and platinum single ("Naturally") with her pop-rock band The Scene, and starred in her first feature film.
For our cover story, Gomez dished to writer Lee Hernandez about everything from Hollywood romance to turning 18. "I feel very young at heart," says Gomez of her milestone birthday. "I still want to jump on my bed singing and rocking out."

On Tuesday afternoon, UsMagazine.com broke the news that Bethenny Frankel is leaving Real Housewives of New York after three seasons. ("Last season was scary and painful," Frankel told Us exclusively.)
Hours later, the big announcement still hadn't reached her onscreen foe Kelly Bensimon.Bensimon -- who constantly traded insults with Frankel on the show -- then offered her thoughts on the departure. "Congratulations? I wish you well?"
The single mother of two daughters also addressed rumors about her own status with Bravo's hit; one report claims that Bensimon, 42, would appear "part-time" on the show's fourth season.
"I was just asked to come back and we haven't negotiated everything yet," she clarified. "But I can answer honestly I would either come back or I wouldn't come back -- we don't do part-time
Of her decision to leave, Frankel, 39, told Us that the nonstop sparring with both Bensimon and former best friend Jill Zarin "took all the joy" out of filming the show. A new mom to daughter Bryn, 3 months, with hubby Jason Hoppy, she said she doesn't "see any reason to go back."
