I’m Starting To Think Ryan Murphy Hates Glee Fans

Hey, it’s been a while since I’ve bitched about Ryan Murphy, right? Well, I guess he was feeling left out because more Glee spoilers have just leaked. So okay Ryan, you attention whore, here’s a blog entry about you. Stop crying now.

If you’re the kind of person who gets all apoplectic about Glee spoilers, go read some other entry. I have many lovely spoiler-free posts, you whiner. But this one here ain’t one of them. E! News reported today that Ryan Murphy has decided to axe yet another character people liked – because hey, what’s the fun of bringing on new characters in your second season, developing relationships for them on the show and getting people attached if you can’t toss them the following year? I mean, obviously.  Ha! You liked them? Well, too bad, suckers!

We already know that Chord Overstreet, aka Sam, will not be appearing on Glee at all this season and now it seems like Ashley Fink, who plays Ryan Murphy’s failed attempt at a non-stereotypical fat girl Lauren Zizes, is also being kicked to the curb.

Here’s the spoiler, confirmed by E! News: Lauren Zizes will break up with Puckerman and quit New Directions, so we won’t be seeing much of her at all. Hints of this were evident, probably to Fink herself, as she was not invited to the approaching Primetime Emmy Awards or included in the season three promotional photo shoot. Cute. It’s almost like letting your lead actors know you won’t have them back after this season via an interview with The Hollywood Reporter

Now, let me just say, I was not really a Lauren Zizes fan. Hell, I’m not really even a Glee fan. But I found her character to be especially condescending and patronizing to heavy girls. See, she’s sexy! Because she’s funny! But also, no really, she’s sexy! See how confident she is? Lauren doesn’t care what anyone thinks and she gets the super hot boyfriend! And he chased her, because heavy girls don’t have to be desperate. She’s not at all the stereotypical “funny fat girl,” because she had a boyfriend.  Duh. I guess Ryan feels like he’s made his point: fat chicks may still haveth confidence and gaineth boyfriends, sayeth Lord Murphy. And so it shall be. So say we all. Etc.

But back to my point: there were a ton of Lauren Zizez fans. Just like there were a ton of Chord Overstreet fans. There were, as they say, lots of Puck and Lauren “shippers” who are going to be royally pissed. Gleeks are crazy, honestly, just look at Tumblr for like, five minutes. It’s a scary place. So, good job in alienating yet another chunk of your fans right before the premiere September 20. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone consistently disappoint fans during a summer hiatus. Well played, Ryan Murphy. Well played.
