Disappointment Of The Day: Demi Lovato & Ryan Phillippe

Demi Lovato is a lot of things. Sure, you can make fun of her for being a former Disney star, for performing in not only one, but two “Camp Rock” movies, for her strange and embarrassing obsession with hats and little gloves. But in the past year, she’s come really far, especially considering her recent headlines include being dumped by a Jonas, punching a back-up dancer and entering rehab for cutting and bulimia. But with her latest single, “Skyscraper,” (and surprisingly touching video to go with it) just released in perfect unison with a tell-all Ryan Seacrest interview, you can’t help but be a little impressed.

Sure, it’s excellent PR work, but it also takes guts for an 18-year-old to admit all the mistakes she’s made quite so publicly. And even more for someone so under scrutiny to challenge the haters with nothing but a positive attitude.

That’s why this whole Ryan Phillippe thing bums me out. It was reported yesterday by E! that Lovato (remember, she’s only eighteen) has been dating 36-year-old Ryan Phillippe for quite some time.

I just do not understand you, Ryan Phillippe. Don’t you remember, Ryan? In Cruel Intentions, you learned to stop being a scumbag! You used to be married to Reese Witherspoon! Dammit, you have a middle school-aged daughter! Now you’ve made the press three times in the past month: once for dating Amanda Seyfried (good), once for having a love child with ex-GF Alexis Knapp (not great, but not horrible by any means) and now for dating a girl half your age who just got out of rehab (super gross). If you’re keeping track, Ryan, that leaves you off at “super gross.” Good job. Also, just how many people are you dating at the same time?

According to E! Online, Demi was not even aware that Ryan was going to be a father again “until it basically happened.” Demi can do much better than this. For someone who has worked so hard at getting better and repairing her damaged image, it sure seems like a step backwards to act out all your daddy issues with a has-been teen idol.
