ANDRE VILLAS BOAS

Andre Villas-Boas born 17 October 1977 in Porto, is a Portuguese football manager and the current manager of Chelsea. Prior to his appointment at Chelsea, he spent nine months as manager of Académica de Coimbra and then a year as manager of F.C. Porto.

While at Porto he became the youngest manager to win a European club title. His €15 million (£13.3 million) move from Porto to Chelsea is the most expensive ever by a manager.Unusually for a manager at the top level, he has no experience as a professional player.

At the age of 16, Villas-Boas (who was always a Porto supporter) lived in the same apartment block as the English Bobby Robson, who was managing FC Porto at the time. Following a debate between the two, Robson appointed Villas-Boas to Porto's observation department.Under the guidance of Robson, who was impressed with his fluent knowledge of English, he achieved his UEFA C coaching licence at the age of 17 in Scotland.He then had a short stint as head coach of the British Virgin Islands national team at the age of 21, before he moved onto a career as an assistant coach at Porto under José Mourinho (another protégé of Robson's). As Mourinho moved clubs to Chelsea and Internazionale, Villas-Boas followed.

At the start of the 2009/10 season, Villas-Boas left Mourinho's support team to pursue a career as manager, and he soon found a job in the Primeira Liga with Académica de Coimbra, filling a vacancy created by Rogério Gonçalves' resignation in October 2009. At the time of Villas-Boas' appointment, Académica were at the bottom of the league and still without wins, but their luck started to change as he introduced a new style, leading them to a safe 11th place, ten points clear of the relegation zone. In addition to that, Académica also reached the 2009–10 Portuguese League Cup semi-finals, losing against Porto at the Estádio do Dragão with a late goal from Mariano González. His impact at Académica was immediate, not only because of solid results, but also because of the attractive football displayed by the team, which led to intense media speculation linking him with the vacant jobs at Sporting Clube de Portugal and Porto in the summer of 2010.

Villas-Boas was announced as new Porto manager on 2 June 2010. On 7 August 2010, he won his first trophy when Porto beat Benfica 2–0 in the Portuguese Supercup. He followed this with three more titles: the Portuguese Primeira Liga, the UEFA Europa League and the Portuguese Cup. He became the third youngest coach to win the Primeira Liga, behind Mihály Siska (1938/39), and Juca (1961/62) and the youngest manager ever to win a European competition, by winning the UEFA Europa League on 18 May 2011 at the age of 33 years and 213 days On 21 June 2011 Villas-Boas tendered his resignation as manager of Porto.



Chelsea confirmed the appointment of Villas-Boas as their new manager on a three-year contract with immediate effect on 22 June 2011. They indirectly paid Porto €15 million (£13.3 million) compensation via Villas-Boas to activate his release clause and free him from his contract.

On July 30, during the pre-season, Villas-Boas' Chelsea won the 2011 Barclays Asia Trophy.
Villas-Boas speaks English fluently, having been taught by his paternal grandmother Margaret Kendall, whose mother moved to Portugal from Cheadle, United Kingdom, to start a wine business. He has been married since 2004 to Joana Teixeira, and has two daughters.

ALESSANDRO MATRI is an Italian footballer who plays as a striker for Italian Serie A club Juventus.he was born 19 August 1984 in Sant'Angelo Lodigiano, Lombardy, Matri started his career at Milan (30 km away from Sant'Angelo Lodigiano) and played his first Serie A match as a starter on 24 May 2003, the third last match of the season before the 2003 UEFA Champions League Final and 2003 Coppa Italia Final. The match Piacenza Calcio was won by Milan 4–2, as Milan rested almost all the regular starters. Matri did not score in that match, partnered with Michele Piccolo and replaced by Roberto Bortolotto in the 71st minute. In the next season, he played all the time at Primavera (U20) Team and has not played in the first team. In the 2004–05 and 2005–06 seasons, he left on loan to Prato (along with Piccolo) and Lumezzane, played 64 Serie C1 matches.

In June 2007, as part of David Suazo's deal to Milan, he left for Cagliari in co-ownership deal, for €2 million. (Suazo eventually joined city rival Internazionale.) He partnered with Robert Acquafresca, which Internazionale sent him to the Sardinia as part of Suazo's deal. The young strikers scored 16 goals for the team, ahead of midfielders Pasquale Foggia and Daniele Conti (both five goals). Their replacement, Jeda and Joaquín Larrivey, scored three goals in half season and one goal in the full season, respectively. In June 2008, Cagliari bought the another half of the player's registration rights for another €2 million.

In the next season, Matri became the third choice striker, as Jeda and Acquafresca were in better form throughout the season. He did score, however, six goals in 31 matches, but only 11 of them as a starter.

After the exit of Acquafresca, Matri became the other half of a starting pair along with Jeda, with new signing Nenê, the 2008–09 Portuguese Liga top-scorer, played as a substitute. He was the team's top scorer, having scored 12 league goals, ahead Nenê (seven goals) and Jeda (six goals). At the start of the 2010–11 Serie A season, he was re-united with Acquafresca as he re-joined Cagliari. Matri, Acquafresca, and Nenê scored 11 goals in 22 games, three goals in 21 games (only 11 starts), and four times in 20 games (14 starts) in the league, respectively, before Matri's departure.

On 31 January 2011, in the final hours of the January transfer window, Matri moved to Juventus until the end of the season in loan deal that saw the remaining half of Lorenzo Ariaudo's registration rights, worth €2.5 million, being acquired to Cagliari; Juventus will also have an option to permanently acquire the player at the end of the season for €15.5 million in three installments.[5] The acquisition was a consequence of Juventus' striking vacancies caused by a out-of-season injury to fellow on-loan striker Fabio Quagliarella and the loan of Amauri to Parma.

Matri made his Juventus debut only two days later, playing in a league game against Palermo, ended in a 2–1 win for the Sicilian opponents. On 5 February, Matri scored his first two goals for Juventus on his return to Cagliari, when he latched onto a Miloš Krasić pass and drove into the near corner for the first, and volleyed again for the second, choosing not to celebrate on both occasions. Matri scored his third goal for Juventus in the classic Derby d'Italia, scoring a header and defeating Internazionale 1–0. He wasn't able to score in the three upcoming matches against Lecce, Bologna, and Milan. In the next match, he scored another brace, although Juventus managed to secure only one point on a 2-2 away draw match against newly-promoted Cesena. On 4 April, Matri scored his sixth goal for Juventus against Roma, which ended in a 2–0 victory for Juventus.The next match, he again scored one goal, helping the Bianconeri obtain the full three points against Genoa. On the 22nd of June, Matri offically signed for Juventus on a permanent deal which will see the player sign for € 15.5 payable over 3 years. Matri signed the contract which will tie him to Juventus until 2015.
Matri earned his first call up for the Italian national team for a friendly match against Germany that took place on 9 February 2011. On 29 March, he made his debut in the friendly game against Ukraine played in Kiev, where he scored his first goal for Italy in the 81st minute, in a match in where Italy won 2–0.

Bethanie Lynn Mattek-Sands (born March 23, 1985, in Rochester, Minnesota) is an American professional tennis player who competes on the WTA Tour. She lives in Miami, Florida but trains in Phoenix, Arizona. Alexandre Dimitri Song Billong born 9 September 1987, more commonly known as Alex Song, is a Cameroonian footballer who plays for Premier League side Arsenal and the Cameroon national team as a midfielder. He is the cousin of The Panthers central defender Rigobert Song (though he refers to him as uncle). He plays as a defensive midfielder in front of the back four and has also played as a stand-in centre back and right back. Originally a utility player on the fringes of the first team, he quickly became an integral part of the first team during the preseason to the 2008–09 campaign. He played for the Cameroon national football team in 2010 FIFA World Cup. Song also possesses a French passport.

Hello fashionistas!

Today I am pleased to be able to introduce you to Michelle Planche, President of Paradigm Events www.paradigmevents.com and creator of the not-for-profit foundation, the Art of Fashion http://artoffashion.org.  When I first met Michelle, I thought she was like a warm summer breeze sailing from one meeting to another with her lovely smile and easy going nature.  She is a force to be reckoned with in the very best sense and a perfect fit for the demanding event industry.   She started her career as a teenager and has truly become a fixture on the Toronto fashion scene.  As I listened to her talk about how she got started and the incredible growth of her company over the years, I was amazed at her level of energy, enthusiasm and genuine desire to make every event something to remember.  She is responsible for the smooth execution, organization and promotion of countless events every year and has to wear multiple hats on a regular basis.  Mind you, I wouldn’t cover up her gorgeous blonde locks for anything!  Sit back and enjoy Michelle’s story of success and learn about her passion for fashion!

When did you first fall in love with fashion?

I fell in love with fashion as a teenager.  I was an eccentric dresser in high school and every day was a fashion show.  I went to three different high schools in four years because I started a fashion show in each school, produced it and moved on.  I started modelling at 14 because I thought it would be a great networking tool for meeting designers, retailers and potential clients.  I even had business cards that said fashion show producer at 15!  I used to take my family’s old outfits and reconstruct them and re-work them for them for the high school crowd.  I still have closet full of my most memorable outfits at my parent’s house!

What brought about the creation of Art of Fashion?

When I graduated from high school, I knew I wanted to be a fashion show producer and I was looking for a university that had a fashion show.  I found Bishop’s University in Quebec and showed up on their doorstep with my demo reel and portfolio in hand.  They immediately gave me full control of their fashion show, ‘Beach Bash’ and it was through that show that I got to meet some Canadian designers.  From there I was able to get contract work producing shows for community designers during my summer break.  In my third year I realized I wanted to expand my planning beyond fashion.  I knew so many young designers and knew could act as an asset to them.  Many of them needed guidance, organizational and planning skills and someone to mentor them.  I knew that there was a serious gap for emerging designers from graduation to getting their merchandise into Holt’s so when I graduated in 1997, I launched the first Art of Fashion event in 1998.  At first it was just a fashion show and design competition and it developed from there.   Back then I didn’t even have a cell phone, someone would page me and I would pull over and find a phone booth!  I was handing out flyers on street corner and I couldn’t believe it when the event sold out!  There were people lined up all the way down the street! 

How has Art of Fashion improved the landscape of Canadian design?

I think I find that there’s a lot more recognition for Canadian designers as a whole and one of the ways we have improved the landscape, is we have brought awareness to the forefront in terms of supporting our own talent.  We have raised attention to some of the gaps of making it here in Canada and some of the struggles.  Our organization is all about making fashion accessible.  We didn’t want to become exclusive; we wanted to be a great outlet for anyone in the fashion industry to explore the path to success, whether that person be a photographer, designer or in public relations.  Art of Fashion is the best way for our designers to learn what it is that consumers want. 

How can designers enter the competition?

Designers can enter the competition by completing an application form and putting together a series of six sketches for six outfits that would complete a collection.  http://artoffashion.org/home/aof-2011-designer-application-4/

What is this year’s theme?

This year’s theme is Choreology.  The inspiration is focused on creativity, expression and art form.  I came up with the theme when I was at a dance performance and I was thinking that the costumes were amazing and incredible.  With every different dance style, movement and culture,  fashion was the  distinguishing piece.  Choreology is about the movement and fluidity of the designs that will be showcased.

What can we expect to see at the Art of Fashion event?

You can expect to see our ten design finalists, each with a six piece collection brought to life through an exhibit, along with rotating fashion shows throughout the evening.  You will also meet between 25-35 Canadian independent designers who have their own marketable brands in niche markets who will make their merchandise available for sale.

Tell us about Art Of Fashion’s partnership with ANTM Live Canada. 

America’s Next Top Model Live Canada will be highlighting some of the pieces from our designers in their fantastic Main Stage Fashion Show.  I think this is a great opportunity to support the fashion industry as a whole and that’s why Art of Fashion and ANTM Live have come together - to bring Canadian fashion to the consumer.

What would be your advice to emerging Canadian designers?

I would say it is so important to look at all facets of the business.  Every designer should refine their craft, expand their talent and creativity and come up with their very own signature style.  I would also encourage them to establish long and short term goals and look at complete cycle of a designer including a budget and overall plan of action.

Christina Aguilera and Selena Gomez are the leading nominees for the ALMA Awards, which honor the artistic accomplishments of Latinos in music, television and film. The National Council of La Raza announced the nominations Thursday.



Aguilera and Gomez are each up for three awards for their work in music and on the big and small screens. Both are nominated in the female music artist category and for favorite movie actress in a comedy or musical - Aguilera for "Burlesque" and Gomez for "Monte Carlo."



Aguilera was also nominated for reality TV personality for her work on "The Voice." Gomez is up for favorite TV actress in a comedy for "Wizards of Waverly Place."



Jennifer Lopez and "Glee" star Naya Rivera are each double nominees. Both are up for female music artist. Lopez is also nominated in the reality TV category for "American Idol" and Rivera is nominated for favorite TV actress in a comedy for "Glee."



The ALMA Awards will be presented Sept. 16 during an hour-long special on NBC hosted by George Lopez and Eva Longoria.

Geri Halliwell -- whose swimsuits are in stores now -- debuted six new evening dresses as part of her new Geri by Next collection in London Wednesday night."I've been sketching everything myself and I'm thrilled with the results," Halliwell, 38, told OMG. "I've had the opportunity to make dresses that are not stupidly expensive but still elegant enough to wear to an up-market event."

According to the site, Halliwell's new dresses are "reasonably priced," and start at 89 pounds (approximately $145). The new collection will be available in Britain beginning in October.
